Our Story
Equality, dignity, and a future free from FGM.
Neema Foundation was founded to confront harmful traditions and build communities where every girl is safe, educated, and free.
Who We Are
A movement rooted in courage and community.
Neema Foundation CBO was founded on 28th November 2024 with a strong commitment to ending Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in Elgeyo Marakwet County. The county records an FGM prevalence rate of 19.7% ,higher than Kenya's national prevalence of approximately 15% highlighting the urgent need for intensified awareness, advocacy, rescue, and community engagement.
Elgeyo Marakwet is among the 22 hotspot counties in Kenya where FGM is still practiced despite legal and community interventions. Deep-rooted cultural beliefs, stigma, and social pressure continue to fuel the harmful practice, affecting the health, dignity, education, and future of girls and women.
Through advocacy, partnerships, youth engagement, and grassroots sensitization, Neema Foundation is dedicated to building a future of zero FGM cases and empowering communities to protect the rights of every girl child.

Founder & Executive Director
Neema Kimutai
A passionate human-rights advocate from Elgeyo Marakwet, Neema founded the Neema Foundation out of an urgent need to confront and address deep-seated cultural harms impacting girls and young women within her community.
Witnessing firsthand the devastating, lifelong consequences of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), early child marriages, and unexpected teenage pregnancies, she set out to craft a blueprint for sustainable systemic change one built on empathy, education, and grassroots ownership.
"Every girl deserves the chance to grow up safe, educated, and completely free to choose her own destiny."
